Automated Shipyards are solo armadas. You'll get the directives from your Monaveen refinery, after you've farmed the Neural Net Chips off of Texas-class ships. My guess would be you'd be able to use the same crews for these ships as for other solo armadas.
Each armada will cost 500 directives, and will have a timer of a minute and thirty seconds.
